Bachelor's

Nursing BS Prelicensure

University of California, Los Angeles Joe C. Wen School of Nursing 37 courses

About This Program

The focus of the prelicensure program is on the preparation of nurse generalists with special skills in primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and care within an individual- and population-based context while developing the basics for a strong leadership role. Students learn the art and science of nursing using the latest research findings to guide their practice. The Nursing (Prelicensure) major is a designated capstone major. Students complete a clinically based scholarly project that is approved by a designated faculty member. In completing the capstone course, students should select, evaluate, and apply appropriate theory and research findings concerning individual- and population-based health promotion and disease prevention, biobehavioral and health systems, and social environmental, cultural, and human diversity to the nursing process. They should utilize the nursing process to promote biopsychosocial health and disease prevention and to support the resources of culturally diverse clients and families in community- and/or hospital-based settings.
