CIS 3052

Web Application Technologies

Temple University 3 credits CIS

Course Description

This course is an introductory web application development course in which students will create and publish a simple full stack web application. Students will learn: (1) HTML for web page content and structure, (2) CSS for styling, (3) JavaScript for client side functionality, (4) a client side library/framework such as React for creating reusable web components, and (5) a server side language such as PHP to write Web APIs. Students will use a modern IDE (such as Visual Studio Code) to write code and a Database Developer Tool (such as MySQL Workbench) to design and populate their databases. Students will write Single Web Page Applications that utilize AJAX to invoke Web APIs written in PHP. Students will apply good software design patterns such as SRP (Single Responsibility Principle), DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself), and Dependency Injection so that their web applications will be reliable, extensible, and maintainable.
