The program’s core areas of specialization include communication and cognition, political communication, and computational communication. Students are trained in the core of communication scholarship by engaging in coursework and research that aligns with the broader discipline. The MS degree is not a stand-alone, terminal degree. Students enrolled in the PhD degree program may be granted a terminal MS degree if they do not complete the PhD requirements and exit the program. To be granted the MS degree, students must complete all required courses for the PhD and complete the second year research paper, approved by the student’s adviser and two additional ladder faculty members from the Department of Communication. If the student is continuing in the PhD program, this degree is optional.
